Frequently Asked Questions

"What is the turnaround time?"

I will give an estimate for a turnaround time for your project, but it is an educated guess and not a guarantee. I take a limited amount of work annually so that I can keep to a reasonable turnaround time, usually within or up to 12 months after drop-off.

"Do you tan hides or make rugs?"

No. While I do tan the majority of the hides for the mounts I create, I do not tan hides to be mounted elsewhere or tan hides to be kept as a soft hide. I also do not provide a rugging service. The taxidermy I provide is focused on mounts that are gameheads, full body, or half mounts.

3

"I don't have a cape for the animal I want mounted. Do you have spare capes?"

Yes. I usually have my own supply of spare capes in stock. If I don't have one that meets the requirements of your specimen, I can search the market for spare capes from other taxidermists and tanneries. The spare cape will bring an additional charge to the price of the mount based on the value and condition (raw or tanned) of the cape or based on the selling price of a market spare cape.

4

"If I have an old mount that I want re-done, can you do that?"

Yes. Just bring in the old mount, and for the price of the mount option of your choice and a spare cape to replace the old one, you can have your rough old mounts re-done with a fresh breath of new life to them.

5

"Do you mount birds or fish?"

No. I am a mammal specialist and only provide taxidermy of mammal species.

6

"Can I bring you my deceased pet?"

No. I do not work on pets.

7

"What do I need to bring to drop-off an animal?"

Along with bringing your animal, be prepared to provide all of your personal/contact information and legal documentation of permits and tags purchased to hunt said animal. A 50% deposit is required for me to start any project.

8

"If I live out-of-state can you ship my mount to me when it's done?"

Yes. I can crate and ship your mount to you through either a delivery (UPS) vehicle or a semi-truck depending on the size of the crate. Expect to pay a shipping fee in addition to the price on your mount based on shipping rates, the size of the crate to build, and the distance to ship.

9

"Do you cape deer or get deer travel-legal as per CWD transportation laws?"

Yes. For a $50 fee I will cape your deer to be mounted here or for a $100 fee I will cape your deer, bag it for travel, and clean the skull cap with the antlers attached so you can legally travel across state lines with that animal to take back home to your local taxidermist.

10

"Do you process the meat of an animal?"

No. I only provide skinning/taxidermy services.

11

"Can I skin/cape my animal myself and bring it to you that way?"

Yes, you can, but I recommend you let me do any skinning that you're not well practiced in. For a small fee I will cape a deer or other big game animal off of the carcass, but there is no extra charge for me to skin an animal's head if the head & cape are brought in already taken off of the carcass. There is also no extra charge for me to skin animals for full body mounts, as that labor is included in the total price of that project.

12

"Do you work on animals from anywhere in the world?"

Yes I do. Just as with local wildlife, all animals must come with documentation of legal harvest and the client's information. Here at Tanner's Wildlife Artistry, a beautiful piece of lasting, quality art is guaranteed for any trophy from anywhere in the world. Even if it is an animal that has never been mounted in this studio before, the same techniques are used on every animal and a careful study of reference photos is standard procedure for every animal mounted here to insure an accurate and life-like mount every time.
